Information on Drone Operations

Drone Users and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)

Attention Drone Users!

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS and often referred to as "Drones") are required to abide by Federal Aviation Regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration for proper and safe operation.

  • If you are unfamiliar with the requirements that need to be met before operating a drone, please visit the FAA site and Know Before You Fly

  • You may also download the FAA's B4UFLY phone app from the FAA website.

Once you have complied with all FAA requirements prior to flying a UAS/Drone, hobbyist pilots are required to notify the Auburn Municipal Airport if operating within the five (5) mile radius of the airport itself.

When contacting the Airport for a drone operation, include the following:

  1. Your name
  2. Contact information
  3. Date and time of the flight activity
  4. The operation's location (latitude/longitude coordinates preferred)
  5. The altitude, radius, and or route of the drone's flight

Send this information to airport@auburnwa.gov or give us a call at (253) 333-6821.
